The 2023 Terranean Grenache, our flagship blend and softest, most approachable wine, fuses wild strawberries, savory depth, and vibrant spice into a radiant reflection of Paso Robles’ sprawling terroir across three sub-AVAs—Adelaida, Templeton Gap, and Willow Creek. Drawing from five vineyards spanning every compass point—north, south, east, and west—this wine captures the region’s diverse essence. At its core, 29% comes from Worth Hill Vineyard in the rugged Adelaida District, where head-trained Grenache vines, farmed by Ted Dubost with a multi-generational legacy in Paso Robles, yield rich, spice-driven fruit amplified by whole cluster fermentation. Another 29% hails from Caelesta Vineyard’s manicured northeast slopes in the Templeton Gap District, crafted by the passionate Farrell family, lending vibrant florals and refined elegance. The blend is anchored by 14.5% each from the premier G2 and Coakley Vineyards in the Willow Creek District, adding savory, concentrated depth and mineral-driven complexity, while 13% own-rooted Grenache from the rising Copia Estate, tended by the Sahi family, infuses roundness and purity.

Blessed by the ‘23 season’s abundant rainfall and long ripening, these vineyards produced small berries with intricate layers, deftly crafted through 35% whole cluster fermentation to enhance spice and tension. Guided by the many hands of our trusted growers this Grenache thrives on their collective vision and precision in viticulture. The 2023 Terranean Grenache, with its lively acidity, vivid florals, and vibrant spice, promises a compelling evolution, a harmonious showcase of Paso Robles’ multifaceted terroir.

Sourced from the Coakley Vineyard in Paso Robles’ Willow Creek District, our coolest site, its east-facing calcareous slopes capture the marine layer’s cooling embrace, yielding grapes from Grenache clones 6.1 and 8.1—distinctive selections planted in 2018. These vines, thriving in Paso’s climate, produce small berries with intense minerality and intricate layers, blessed by the ‘23 season’s abundant rainfall and cool, even ripening.

Crafted with the guidance of Jenny Heinzen, Randy Heinzen, and their skilled team, with whom we collaborate, the Coakley Vineyard thrives under Randy’s expertise as a leading grower. With carefully curated varieties tailored to Paso Robles and precision in viticulture, its growing reputation as a premier site signals a bright future for distinctive fruit. Rooted in a rich agricultural past, the site, nestled at the iconic corner of Vineyard Drive and Highway 46 West, was established in 2018 by John Coakley, with blocks named for his grandchildren, reflecting his enduring vision. Our 2023 G2 Vineyard Grenache, Terranean’s inaugural release, hails from an iconic benchmark vineyard in Paso Robles’ Willow Creek AVA meticulously farmed by owner Bill Gibbs and his team. Rooted in southwest-facing calcareous shale soil with Grenache clone 362 vines grafted in 2014. This low-yield block produces profoundly concentrated berries with lively ripe fruit and subtle sandalwood and pepper notes, framed by a mineral backbone.

The 2023 vintage, shaped by generous winter rains and a long steady growing season free of heat spikes, allowed extended hangtime, amplifying depth and complexity. This Grenache captivates with its refined structure. With time, its savory depth will unravel, as its unique Paso Robles acidity promises an exceptional aging journey. A wine we’ll most closely watch as time goes by. An honor to debut with G2’s revered terroir, named for Gasherbrum II’s steep slopes or Gibbs’ second vineyard, this wine is the beacon of our portfolio.
